New York State Parks Invites Fairgoers to “Revisit the Revolution” at the State Park at the Fair

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation invites visitors to explore the State Park at the Fair during the Great New York State Fair from August 26 – September 7 and discover the people, places and stories that shaped New York and the nation during the American Revolution.

In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the State Park at the Fair will showcase a variety of historic sites and interpretive experiences highlighting New York’s pivotal role in the Revolutionary era.

Visitors will have an opportunity to explore the Revisit the Revolution Traveling Exhibition – featuring 21 objects from New York State Parks and Historic Sites’ collections, along with The Revolution Across New York exhibition banners, and an interactive digital display. The exhibit will be available for the duration of the State Fair.

Historic site interpreters from across the state will offer programs exploring colonial trade, Revolutionary War militia, loyalty oaths, colonial tea and rum, Native American history, African American history, and other aspects of life in Revolutionary-era New York.

“As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, I invite all fairgoers to visit the State Park at the Fair and experience New York’s rich revolutionary history in a whole new way,” New York State Parks & Historic Sites Commissioner Kathy Moser said. “Through engaging programs, knowledgeable interpreters and fascinating historic objects, visitors of all ages can discover something new about New York’s defining role in the American Revolution and the historic sites that preserve these stories today.”

Located in front of the Horticulture Building, the State Park at the Fair offers shaded picnic tables, trees and a reflecting pool, making it a perfect meeting spot for families. The park also features a mini-golf course, a live Birds of Prey demonstration, and the State Parks store.
